Unigel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with thyssenkrupp nucera to increase the capacity of its green hydrogen plant in Brazil. The plant being developed by Unigel in Bahia, will be increased from 60MW to 240MW of water electrolysis. H2 View understands the facility, set to be the first industrial-scale green hydrogen plant in Brazil, is planned to be delivered by the end of 2023.  In its first 60MW phase, the plant will utilise thyssenkrupp nucera standard electrolysers and has an initial capacity of 10,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen and 60,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia.  
The second phase, expected to go into operation by 2025, will see the quadrupling of production of green hydrogen and ammonia to 40,000 tonnes and 240,000 tonnes respectively. Unigel revealed the plans to build Brazil’s ‘first’ green hydrogen plant in July last year (2022), announcing an investment of $120m.
